Crowded Action
1
hour/15 performers
Crowded Action interacts with the movement of pedestrians and viewers
and with the architecture of a live space. The performers use the existing
activity of the space – walking, standing, sitting – to build choreographic
patterns. The crowd, invited and accidental, is both the audience and the
subject of the performance. Crowded Action offers a mirror of
behavior, movement, flow and architecture of the space in which it it adapted.
It also creates a strong awareness of public space
as shared space.
Crowded Action was commissioned by the Taiwan Embassy, New York in November of 2006 as a reflection of the behavior and nature
of crowds in relation to environment. It has also been commissioned by Tacheles, Berlin (July 2007) and Victory Hall, Jersey City (May 2007).
The concept of Crowded Action was developed with visual artist Diego Britt
Presentation
Crowded Action can be presented as a covert event which occurs inside another event, or as a performance in itself.
Crowded Action requires at least ten performers. In New York Shua Group collaborators join us for Crowded Action; elsewhere presenters partners with us to
recruit performers for a short rehearsal process.
